The ’58 Split Coil P captures the powerful, punchy character of the late-1950s Precision Bass, with increased output, strong bass response and a controlled high end.
As the Precision Bass evolved, the original Tele-style bass single coil was replaced in 1957 by the split-coil humbucking design. The ’58 Split Coil P is based on this slightly later design, using flat-profile, hand-bevelled Alnico V magnets arranged across two separate coils.
The two coils feature opposing winding direction and magnetic polarity, providing effective hum cancellation while retaining the distinctive character and response of a traditional Precision Bass pickup.
Hand-wound with 42 AWG plain enamel wire, the ’58 Split Coil P delivers a stronger bass response, controlled highs and a slightly scooped midrange compared with the earlier single-coil design.
With more output on tap, the pickup produces the muscular attack, exceptional punch and authoritative low-end response associated with late-1950s P Bass instruments.
Classic Rock, Blues, Country, Soul, R&B, Funk, Pop and Vintage Bass.
Ideal for Precision Bass-style instruments and players looking for a powerful late-1950s P Bass tone with enhanced bass response, controlled highs and increased output.
