The Black Hawk is a radical-looking humbucker designed for players who want the output and transparency of an active pickup without sacrificing the character, dynamics and control of a passive design. Best of all, it delivers this performance without the need for batteries.
Each coil features specially annealed, nickel-plated steel blades that provide an even magnetic field across the strings, ensuring excellent string-to-string balance and a consistent response across the entire fretboard.
While its DC resistance may appear moderate on paper, the specially designed coils, blade construction and custom-calibrated magnets deliver substantial output without compromising dynamics. The Black Hawk remains highly responsive to pick attack and volume adjustments, allowing players to move effortlessly between clean, driven and high-gain tones.
The low end is deep, tight and exceptionally fast-tracking, making it ideal for precise riffing and lower tunings. High notes remain full and powerful, even high up the fretboard, supported by broad mids and solid, articulate highs. Despite its high-output capability, the overall response remains clear and detailed without becoming harsh or clinical.
Hand scatter-wound with 42 AWG Heavy Formvar wire, the Black Hawk is available with different magnet configurations to tailor its response. The bridge pickup can be powered by either a trio of Ceramic magnets for maximum speed, aggression and output, or a trio of Alnico V magnets for a smoother, more organic response. The neck pickup uses Alnico V for a clear, dynamic and expressive voice.
