Aggressive, harmonically rich and full of impact, with the dynamics and versatility to clean up beautifully from the volume control.
Created in collaboration with Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens, the Rebel Yell humbucker was designed to deliver the power and aggression needed for Hard Rock and Metal without becoming a one-dimensional high-output pickup.
Steve wanted a pickup capable of producing serious impact and saturated drive while retaining clarity, dynamic response and the ability to clean up effectively when the guitar's volume is rolled back. Following extensive development, touring and studio testing across several of Steve's Les Pauls, the Rebel Yell signature set was born.
The bridge and neck pickups use closely offset coils wound with 43 AWG plain enamel wire. This design retains the strong midrange punch associated with higher-output humbuckers while delivering a tighter low end, cleaner highs and increased presence.
The result is an organic and highly responsive voice with powerful pick attack, rich harmonic overtones and wide dynamic range. The bridge pickup has enough output to push a tube amplifier into full saturation, yet remains articulate and responsive to changes in picking dynamics and volume.
Despite its aggressive character, the Rebel Yell is remarkably versatile. Roll back the volume control and the pickup cleans up effectively, making it equally capable of driven rhythm tones, expressive lead work and more dynamic, lower-gain sounds.
An optional custom Ray Gun graphic cover is also available, adding a distinctive visual touch to this already iconic signature humbucker set.
