A 560kΩ resistor is commonly used in guitar wiring to reduce the effective load seen by a pickup when using 550kΩ pots, such as the custom Bare Knuckle 550K CTS potentiometers.

When a 560kΩ resistor is connected from the signal/hot side to ground, it is effectively in parallel with the pot:

[R_{effective}=\frac{550k\times560k}{550k+560k}] ≈ 277.5kΩ

So a 550kΩ Bare Knuckle pot with a 560kΩ resistor presents the pickup with an effective load of approximately 278kΩ, very close to the traditional 280kΩ load used with Strat® and Tele® single-coils.

Why use it?

Bare Knuckle uses 550K pots to provide greater clarity, openness and high-frequency response. While this is particularly useful with humbuckers, some single-coils may benefit from a lower load.

Adding a 560kΩ resistor effectively brings the load down to around 280kΩ, giving:

  • Less high-frequency emphasis

  • A smoother, warmer response

  • Better control of bright single-coils

  • The flexibility of retaining a 550kΩ Bare Knuckle pot

Typical Application

For an HSS or mixed-pickup guitar:

550K Bare Knuckle Pot + 560kΩ Resistor → ≈ 278kΩ effective load

This allows a single-coil pickup to see an approximately 280kΩ load, while retaining the versatility and higher resistance value of the 550K Bare Knuckle CTS potentiometer.
